Downtown Dinner

Today at lunch a co-worker and I wanted to try something different to eat so we looked through the internet trying to find a nice small place to try. We came across this place called “Downtown Dinner”, we read reviews and decided to give it a shot. The reviews we decent about 5 good and 2 bad. It is located in Henderson, KY at 122 1st Street. We pull up and look at the building it is nothing to write home about but when you enter the dinner it is a modern looking building with big windows facing the road. It has 3 old time speakers are the only things in the place that tie it back to dinners from back in the day.

The waitress asked us if we would like to see what was on the buffet for the day and walked us to it. They had a salad bar, and on the hot buffet was Fried Chicken, Pot Roast, Catfish Fillets, Mashed potatoes, corn, peas, green beans, 2 kinds of gravy, lima beans, rolls, biscuits, and pancakes. It looked delightful, we found a table and sat down the waitress handed us menus. She asked what we wanted to drink and told us that they served RC cola. We told her what we wanted she left to give us time to think about the menu. We looked at the menus and this place has great prices for 5.99 you can get fried chicken livers with 2 sides and that is how the prices for most items were.

After surveying the menu we decided on the buffet and all I can say is wow. I had the catfish and it is probably the best catfish I have EVER had. A friendly waitstaff, good food, good prices, this place isn’t missing anything. The only thing that I can say bad about this place is I ate way to much and I am now ready for a nap. I am sure we will go back and take more people with us.

I have to say that if you are in Henderson, KY and are looking for some food go to the “Downtown Dinner” you will not regret it.

Life with out Cable TV

About a year ago we decided that we didn’t need or want to pay for cable tv any more. I said we didn’t need it, we still wanted it though. With the technology that is out there today is it nessecary to pay for cable tv. What other choices does one have?

  1. Netflix ($7.99 a month for streaming)
  2. Hulu (free through you computer)
  3. Hulu Plus ($7.99 a month for streaming)
  4. Amazon Movies
  5. Apple
  6. Xbox
  7. PS3
  8. Network TV (free)
  9. Traditional Movie Rental ($2 per new release per night)
  10. Red Box ($1 per movie per night)
  11. for more options click the following http://gizmodo.com/5366161/life-without-cable-or-satellite-tv-is-easier-than-you-think

So at first living with out cable wasn’t fun, there was nothing ever on TV (not that there was on cable) and we missed certain channels and shows. TLC, SYFY, Discovery they are still missed but there is a lot out there I could care less to ever see again. We decided that we could make it on the movies we owned, network HD television, and netflix. To be honest it wasnt that hard. We found some old tv series that we wanted to watch and we worked are ways through the seasons. We have watched things like Buffy The Vampire Hunter, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Fastlane, etc. I enjoy watching shows this way no commercials, I can watch them on my schedule.

Now it seems like Netflix is making it a little harded with changing the pricing plan but to be honest we don’t use the DVD service anyways. I mailed in our last DVD the other day and we hadn’t even watched it and it had been sitting by the TV for 5 months. So we were paying for something we weren’t using anyway.

What would be nice is if cable providers would allow you to pick the stations you want and pay per station. I would take advantage of this since I only want like 6 or 7 channels, do I really need to have 250 channels that I can not find anything on them to watch? I don’t think so.

I have thus learned that out of everything out there that people can get addicted to TV has to be one of the worst. It keeps you from doing what needs to be done, spending time talking with loved ones and all of the fun stuff that can be done. We still get sucked into shows and don’t want to do those things but we are saving $60 a month at the least which is nice.

Picnic for two

Lately with school and all of the overtime I have been working I have decide that I am going to try to do something romantic this weekend to show my wife what she means to me. I am thinking a romantic picnic for two is the way to go. I have wanted to do this for a while but have never done it.

I am trying to find a nice secluded location that we can go and then after are lunch still have time to play frisbee or anything we can do together. In the city I live we have parks but on a nice day there is going to be a lot of people there. I could take her on a drive and find a place but are they going to be busy. I would like to find a place that either has a great view or a small creek with the sound of running water. A place we can let the worries of the world melt away.

If there is one thing I can say about myself is that I am nerd and I am always plugged in. So one more thing I am going to do is unplug, I am going to turn my phone off so I can not be bothered.

What food should I take? This question is the one that is tough to figure out, should I go out and pick up some nice bread and some cheese, a bottle of wine, or would it be better to take some finger sandwiches and fresh fruit like strawberries and grapes. decisions, decisions

I want this to work so we can just have a day that is just her and I. A day where we can talk and just renew our love for each other. I already know that I have the most loving, beautiful, smart wife in the world. I need to start working to show how much she means to me.

  1. Stuff needed for a picnic
  2. Utensils
  3. Glasses
  4. Wine
  5. Food
  6. Desert
  7. A blanket to sit on
  8. Frisbee
  9. A radio for some light music
  10. A backback to pack everything in

And the major thing a great location to create a new memory at.

If there is one things all guys should know it is treat you wife, girlfriend, partner how they deserve to be treated. Show them that you love them every chance you get. Sneak a kiss when you can. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to show how much you care. The big things are not always the best things you can do, it is the little everyday things that is the glue to the relationship.

iPad vs laptop

I have a laptop and an iPad and even a desktop pc. I love my laptop it does everything I need it to at least for 2 hours until the battery is dead and then I have to find an outlet to plug it in. I have had to buy software for the laptop to make it do the exact things I need it to. I know that I can find open source software for many things like Microsoft Office, but I like the fact that office works and I can still get updates for it. I still use my laptop for things that I have to do for school but that is only if it is something that is purchased on a cd for a class and even then I am leaning more towards my desktop because it is more powerful.

First let me say when I was going to purchase my iPad I went through the Pros and the Cons. The iPad was not the winner, it has a lack of storage and it can not be upgraded these are some big Cons if you ask me, but it does have that WOW factor. I thought I will buy a lesser machine because I can show it off to all my friends and co-workers.

When I got my iPad I was like WOW this is a great thing to have I am going to be able to use it to do everything, I can blog on it and I will be able to use it for school work. Then I started to try and use it for all the fun things I could think of. It will do everything I ask it to as long as I have an app for it. I am not going to lie when I say it has taken me a while to get my iPad to do what I need it to.

At first I was very unimpressed that I really wanted to return it and buy a new laptop but I didn’t. I couldn’t find apps that I liked or that would do what I wanted to. Even still there is not a truly great app for facebook supposedly it is in the works. After a lot of searching the web and the app store I have been able to find some truly great apps that now have me using my iPad the way I think it was intended to be used.

Does the iPad still have cons? Yes, it still has the ones above (but I have noticed that storage is really not a problem). I would also add that typing on it takes some getting used to and even then it kind of sucks.

Does it have it Pros? Yes, it is light weight, apps are cheaper than software, it still has a WOW factor, updating the iOS is free (you will never see windows do this), it does everything that I need it to.

If you were to put the iPad with a wirless keyboard it can do anything a laptop or a desktop can do, as long as there is an app for it. Do I think it will take the place of laptops someday? I do think there is a great possibility (if the price is lower) but I dont think it will ever take the place of a desktop. I think a big problem with it completely taking over is people know how to use Windows and a Windows laptop you can pick up for around $300. For me I will buy another laptop or desktop but I have to say that it is probably going to be an Apple.

Where does it all go

I work and work and then I work some more. I know there are people out there who work more than I do. My dad is one of those people, but we are not talking about him today. Today we are going to talk about where does it all go. What is it? It is everything, from money to time.

Have you ever noticed that there is never enough time in the day to get everything done that needs to be. I know for me when I get home from a workday that has me away from my wife and house from 6:45 in the morning until 5:30 in the evening that I don’t really want or feel that I have the energy to do anything. I can sit on the couch and eat or watch tv but mostly that is about it. So that means typically yard work, gardening, exercise (LOL), cleaning all get put off until the weekend. Then when the weekend rolls around there is not enough time to get it all done.

So lets look at where all the time goes:

  1. Work
  2. School
  3. running erands
  4. sleep

Hmmm. I am not really seeing anything that I can do with out. I guess I am going to have to start finding every little ammount of time I can and do the things that need to be done.

Now we make it to the money portion where does all the money go. I am working 50 hour weeks so I am getting paid for 10 hours of overtime. When I set up a budget (I did mine using excel) I can afford all my bills working a normal week. If you would like me to send you an example let me know. So where is the rest of the money.

I am a gadget lover I want to have all of the newest and best. I havent bought any gadgets in a long time the last thing I bout was my iPad. I can’t honestly say where the money is going but I know some of it is from eating out. I am going to have to sit down and actually start thinking more and more about what I am buying.

Tips I have came up with to stop the impulse buying.

  1. if you see something that you want, wait 24 hours to buy it. Make sure you really need it.
  2. Make a list when shopping and only buy what is on the list. (sounds easy)
  3. Stay out of the electronic section

So if I can teach myself to do these 3 tips it should really help me out with impulse purchases.

A little more money would be nice

I go over it and over it all of the time, where am I going to find some more money. I have thought about a part time job, but with working 50 hours a week and 15 credit hours of school, that just isn’t possible. So now I am to the point of what can I do.

I write on this blog for fun and to be honest I don’t even think a real person has read it yet. I realize that this takes time so I am not going to make a lot of money here, at least not yet. For that to happen I am going to have to find something people really want to read about.

So now out of everything that I have thought of I have had to mark to of them off of the list. There is always selling plasma or blood. I have joked about doing this but if you have seen the places in my town you would understand why I am against it. I could sell off the stuff I don’t use anymore.

That is it! I am going to sell things that I am not using anymore. I can sell of my school books that I don’t use anymore or think that I will need again. I have guitars that don’t get used but I would like to hold on to those for a bit. Comics, baseball cards, there is to much to list. So for now I will sell of old books and parts for a 4wheeler that I no longer have.

School, Work, Life

Trying to balance a full-time job, full-time college, and maintain a healthy relationship with my wife.

I wonder is this going to be possible, am I going to be able to within stand the pressure. When I first started this I thought it would be no problem at all, I am now starting to wonder if I made the right decision.

I wake up in the morning at 6:00 I get dressed, fix my lunch, and try to watch the news for a bit. About 6:45 I kiss my wife goodbye and head off for work. I have roughly a 20 to 30 minute commute to work. I work from about 7:15am to 5:00pm. So that is 9 hours and 45 minutes at work a day. Then on the days I have school I drive at least 30 minutes back to school. My classes start at 6:00pm (right now that is changing next semester) and last until 8:50, then I drive back

home to end my day. It takes me about 15 to 30 minutes to get home. So I get home about 9:15 I spend as much time with my wife as I can before we go to sleep, which is about 11:00.

On the days without school in my schedule it is pretty much the same except I don’t drive to school. Instead I get to go home after work and do homework for those classes.

Would I recommend this to people? No I would not say that anyone should endure what I am trying to do. I know that I am not the only person who does this. For others who are doing this I have questions for them.

How do you cope with the stress?

What do you do to unwind?

When do you find time to enjoy your loved ones?

Is there a time for you to catch up on the sleep you miss?

I am going to try to answer these questions and many more throughout this blog. If you want to ask questions that is fine, if you want to share your experiences that is OK to.

Hello world!

Hello world,

The name I will be going by supercerial. My life has changed a lot in the last 2 years. I have gotten married, bought a house, got laid off, found a new job, start back in college. I love to cook, watch movie especially horror movies, video games, playing golf and softball. This blog is going to be a place where I can share with you my thoughts on all kinds of things like balancing the load of a full time job and going to school full time, theme parks, movies, and sometimes it could be just me venting about different things.

More about me I am 31 years old, live in Indiana. I was a structural detailer for 13 years, which means I drew the individual pieces of steel it takes to build a building. It was a good job and interesting, but not what I wanted to do for ever. The company I worked for helped me with that when I got laid off. That was the one of the worst times in my life. So after the lay off I started looking for a new job. It took me 3 months (I was one of the lucky ones). Now I design water tanks and fuel tanks, this is still not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I guess that is why I decided to return to school and do what I have always loved to do. I am going to school for Information Technologies. I want to work with computers.

I have 3 cats Stewie (orange tabby), Ming (siamese), and Ash (gray) named after Bruce Campbell character in Evil Dead. You will probably hear about them on here. I also have 2 Mississippi Map turtles Panama and Jack. That is it for the pets until we get a dog.

I love me some music. Anything from Brad Paisley to Tupac to Zachariah.

Well that is all for now but look for more soon.
